Specialized Uses

The smallest ball we can supply is 1mm diameter often used in model making. The largest is 8½” diameter Thermoset Resin ball. We offer both metric and imperial sizes in a variety of colours.

Crystal Clear Acrylic balls from 1.5mm to 6” diameter – no bubbles in our balls!

Clear Hollow Spheres that pull apart into two halves are very popular for window designs and decoration. These
are in stock from 50mm to 160mm diameter and have an “eye” at the top for display purposes. Can also be halved into two hemispheres for the production of model Daleks, etc.Can also be halved into two hemispheres for the production of model Daleks, etc. These balls are usually from stock.

Cellulose Acetate: The smallest balls we supply are 1mm acetate in a Magenta colour. Other sizes are 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.35mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 3.5mm, 4mm, 4.5mm, 5mm and 5.5mm. This material is available in many different colours. Specific Gravity of ~1.36g/cc.

Delrin® (Acetal): A hardwearing pure white plastic – will drill and tap well. An excellent bearing material with high mechanical strength and rigidity.

Nylon 66 (Zytel 101®): A natural coloured material produced by DuPont. Again a tough material suitable for machining with resistance to abrasion and many chemicals.

Phenolic: this material is similar to that used for snooker balls and is available in most colours from 15mm to around 3” diameter. A very hard material and a highly polished finished ball.

Polypropylene and Polyethylene: These are the only solid balls we supply that float in water (less than 1g/cc). Some colours are produced but we mainly supply a water white ball. We also stock hollow PP/PE from ¼” to 150mm diameter.

PTFE (Teflon®): The only inert material we offer – soft white in appearance but can withstand very high temperatures and the majority of chemicals. Hollow “Teflon” balls can be produced to order.

Thermoset Resins: Similar to Phenolic but sizes range from 1 3/8” to 8.5” diameter. Styles include pearlescent, fluorescent, opaque, glowing, transparent coloured, clear, marbleised and sparkle. Sparkle balls are coloured, transparent balls with glitter embedded inside. These balls are highly polished and easy to machine, drill and tap. Many of these balls are available from stock otherwise on short delivery. We can offer a colour matching service with this material.

Torlon®: has exceptional physical and chemical properties and can withstand continuous exposure to high temperatures.

Vespel®: provides outstanding wear resistance in lubricated or unlubricated environments. It resists wear, fights creep and practically never melts!

We also supply various special dyes to colour certain plastic materials – please ask for more information.
